Soybean oil candles, when they burn, where is it going? Is it any less dangerous than a smoker in your home?
I would like to know if any studies have been done on the smoke (yes, I know they say they are smokeless candles) and gases from soy candles? I know it's going somewhere and I can't help but wonder about my walls and pictures. I burn candles by my television and I have to wipe it off quite often. I also believe with the house closed up in the winter the air in my home is unsafe with the poisons from the candles and I am looking for the good old fashioned candles made from bee's wax.
Any sort of candle puts out an emission, but the soy candles burn cleaner and don't burn "dirty" smoke that wax candles tend to. Candles shouldn't be burned on a surface such as a tv without a towel or placemat underneath due to the possible ignition of the dust emitted from the hotbox. You need to buy an air purifier or something similar if you're looking at cleaning the air more efficiently while the house is closed up.
Also, when you have a couple of days off, you need to clean the carpets and upholstery well and spray an air cleaner (such as Febreze or Oust) in the air several times in the next month or so to help. Open the windows often during the nights while you're at home, remember to close them before going to sleep to be safe.
Your home is more than likely not unsafe, it's just stuffy and needs to be lived in to clear that up a bit.
