Airplane Tickets. Most of you probably think this is a myth but the best time to buy your ticket is 21 days before your departure date. Why? Because airlines are scrambling to fill those seats most airlines post major price adjustments on their tickets on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, a great time to shop.
Appliances. The big guns come out (not literally) around the patriotic related holidays, President's Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Columbus Day. As for televisions good things come to those who wait. If you can wait six to twelve months after a model has been launched the price will normally be marked down by as much as 60%.
Automobiles. We just passed the mark but weekday mornings in September are the best time to go car shopping. At that point, the dealers are trying to make room for the newer models by getting rid of the older ones. Being there in the morning during the week means less foot traffic and more chance to negotiate with the dealers.
Clothing. If you see something you really really like just wait. After about a month or so retailers will more often than not drop the prices to get it out the door. So wait six to eight weeks after it's arrival and attack on a Thursday evening. February and September are the prime months to hit the mall because that is when designers host fashion week to preview the next season.
Computers & Electronics. Buy right after a new model is launched because then the older models could have a price that is slashed in half.
Gasoline. Stop at the pump before you go to work or late in the evening. Gas stations tend to change their prices between 10 a.m. and 12 noon during the week. But check later in the day because the prices could be falling then.
Food & Produce. Sunday always seems to be the easiest day to shop at the market. All your plans have been done during the weekend, and now it's time for you to fill your fridge before the start of the week. Sales usually begin on Wednesday and run until Tuesday. Sunday is when the newspapers produce their coupon section. If you go closer to closing time you will have access to fresh items like meat and bread that have to go by the end of the day.
Plants. It might seem cliché but the fall is the best time to look into plants, trees, or shrubs. There seems to be a plummet in prices after the midsummer because nurseries are trying to clear out their stock.
Spirits. Champagne can be found at a better price in December. Because there is fierce competition the prices drop drastically. As for wine, the early fall is a good time to browse down the wine aisle. It is also the best harvest season and when the vineyards release their vintage wines. August and September can be good months to catch the "cult wines".
Wedding Dresses. As ironic as this is, you should go dress shopping in between the holidays you eat the most: Thanksgiving and Christmas. Many people get engaged during the holidays anyway. Also, the traffic is low and most people are just thinking about the holidays themselves.
