Does a turbocharger on a gasoline engine increase your mileage?
I was wondering if hooking up a turbocharger to a small gasoline engine on a sedan would increase you mileage at all.
Turbo increases airflow into the the engine.
Increased air = more fuel needed to maintain proper air fuel ratio.
More fuel used = LESS mileage.
Plus: The extreme likelihood of the owner driving the car harder, because they now have a turbo and think it's cool = LESS mileage.
So no, it won't help mileage in the slightest.
Not that hard to figure out....
However, with proper tuning, and some really good engine management systems, you CAN tune the vehicle to get better gas mileage. But the turbo setup on its own, will not.
